Does The Government Own The Media?
After researching much information about the media in Canada, it came to my attention that most of it are owned by the government. Other portions of the course are owned by Bell, Corus, Rodger, Quebecor and the government-owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Now with that being said, how about other countries?
Are we reading facts or watching facts? It is said, that journalists need crises to dramatize news, and government officials need to appear in crisis. Too often, the problem is joined fabrications. * lots of research has shown me this*
An excellent example would be Janet Leslie-Cooke (born July 23, 1954), an American former journalist. She received a Pulitzer Prize in 1981 for an article written for The Washington Post. The story was later discovered to have been fabricated and Cooke — returned the Pulitzer, the only person to date to do so.
Errors of judgment on Facebook — according to a Quebec journalist, Francois Bugingo. A well-known foreign correspondent in Quebec- was put in doubt by an investigation done by the daily newspaper La Presse. The journalist stated that he added a little romance to the story (none of which was true), but later, he stepped back.
Do you think that everything you read that is published is true?
I had a chuckle as I was in line waiting to check out a few items. A teenage girl reached for two magazines to show her mom. I cannot believe that mom- I really liked her, and now she is doing that. My answer would have been- is she?
When in doubt- research before assuming.
It is beautiful for people who come forward and share their views on their lives. Maybe they are not the ones everyone wants to hear, but they are their actual words. As in my writing — non-fiction.
Your story- your views- your rights.
Then again, living in this crazy world, with tabloids that get your attention. It works from a marketing perspective, but is it worth it if you are going to hurt the individual you are writing/reading about?
Also, remember that high-speed chase by the media that took the life of Lady Diana. Was it worth it?
I love writing — a journalist I will never be. I am sticking to my poetry, and stories I own and if in doubt, I look up many things to find facts — not fiction.
